How to Clear Cache and Cookies in Your Web Browser

Contents:

Many display and performance issues in BigTime are caused by outdated files stored in your browser's cache, not by a problem with your account or data. Your browser saves cached files to help pages load faster, but these stored files can sometimes conflict with recent updates to BigTime, causing pages to behave unexpectedly or display outdated content. Clearing your cache and cookies removes these outdated files so your browser loads the current version of the site.

Symptoms

  • Pages display outdated content or don't reflect recent changes
  • Features behave unexpectedly or don't respond as expected
  • A page looks broken or displays incorrectly, even after refreshing
  • An issue clears briefly after a refresh but returns shortly after

Resolution Steps

Clearing your cache and cookies varies slightly by browser. Follow the steps below for the browser you use. After clearing your data, fully close and reopen your browser - refreshing the page alone will not apply the changes.

Google Chrome (Desktop):

  • Step 1: Click the three-dot menu icon in the upper-right corner of Chrome to open the Tools menu.
  • Step 2: Select History from the menu.
  • Step 3: Select Clear Browsing Data from the left-hand side.
  • Step 4: Set the Time Range to All Time, check Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, then click Clear Data.
  • Step 5: Restart Chrome. On Windows, close and reopen Chrome. On Mac, select Chrome in the top menu bar, choose Quit, then relaunch.

Mozilla Firefox:

  • Step 1: Click the three-bar menu icon in the upper-right corner of Firefox.
  • Step 2: Select History.
  • Step 3: Select Clear Recent History from the menu.
  • Step 4: Set the Time Range to Everything, check Cookies, Cache, Active Logins, Site Settings, and Offline Website Data, then click OK.
  • Step 5: Restart Firefox. On Windows, close and reopen Firefox. On Mac, select Firefox in the top menu bar, choose Quit, then relaunch.

Safari (macOS):

  • Step 1: Select Safari in the top menu bar, then select Settings.
  • Step 2: Click the Privacy tab.
  • Step 3: Click Manage Website Data.
  • Step 4: Click Remove All, then click Remove Now to confirm.
  • Step 5: Select Safari in the top menu bar and choose Quit. Relaunch Safari for the changes to take effect.

Microsoft Edge:

  • Step 1: Click the three-dot menu icon in the upper-right corner and select Settings.
  • Step 2: Select Privacy, search, and services from the left-hand menu.
  • Step 3: Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear.
  • Step 4: Check Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, then click Clear Now.
  • Step 5: Close Microsoft Edge completely and relaunch it for the changes to take effect.

Best Practices

  • Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Chrome, Firefox, or Edge on a Windows PC) to open the clear browsing data window directly.
  • Always fully close and reopen your browser after clearing your data - refreshing the page alone will not apply the changes.
  • Clear your cache and cookies periodically, especially after major BigTime updates, to avoid display issues.
  • If an issue persists after clearing your cache and cookies, try opening BigTime in a private or incognito window to confirm whether the browser cache was the cause.

Expected Outcome

After clearing your browser's cache and cookies and fully restarting your browser, BigTime will load the current version of the site, resolving outdated content and unexpected page behavior. If the issue persists after completing these steps, contact BigTime Support for further assistance.
