Quick Start: Building Your Dashboard

BigTime’s dashboards feature puts the power of data in your hands. They’re endlessly customizable, and can take many forms depending on who you want to share them with. To make them a little less daunting, this article will walk you through the initial set-up of a dashboard so you can get started using them.

In this example, we want to build a dashboard that our finance team can use to be more successful. Let’s begin by creating the dashboard in the first place.

Note: You can create a maximum of five dashboards in BigTime. If you’ve maxed out on dashboards, you can always delete a dashboard later on.

In the navigation toolbar, click the tab labeled +ADD BOARD.

A new window will appear with the option to set a name and access permissions for the board. For our purposes, we can call this board “Finance Board”, and check the box next to our Finance Team security group. To learn more about how security groups and dashboards overlap, check out this article.

Now, you have a blank slate that you can add tiles to. We’ll start by adding large data tiles. Click on one of the larger + ADD TILE boxes to be taken to the tile library.

The tile library landing page will show you tiles in every category, but since we want to pick out tiles that will be helpful to our finance team, let’s go to the financials category by clicking FIRM-WIDE FINANCIALS in the left-hand sidebar.

It would probably be helpful for our finance team to know about revenue and profit metrics, so let’s add those large data tiles to our board. When we click directly on the tile, we’ll be taken to a new page where we can rename the tile or, if applicable, set a date range that the tile displays. Clicking the ADD TILE button will add our tile to our tile shopping cart.

You'll see the tile shopping cart open as a sidebar window on the right side of your screen. In our tile shopping cart, we can select where the tile will be published to. We can also delete the tile from our shopping cart by clicking DELETE, or go back and make more edits to the tile by clicking the EDIT hyperlink.

After following these steps, we’re ready to add this tile to our dashboard. To do so, all we have to do now is click the PUBLISH TILE(S) button at the bottom of our side window.

Alternatively, we can also quick-add a tile by clicking QUICK ADD. This will skip the configuration steps and immediately display the tile on our dashboard.

Now we have two large data tiles on our dashboard. If we want to add quick insight tiles, the process is nearly identical to the one we followed above. All we have to do differently is click the +ADD TILE button in our quick insights sidebar.

We’ll again be taken to the tile library, but instead will see our available quick insights tiles instead of large data tiles. Quick insight tiles are also arranged by categories, which you’ll see in your sidebar. From here on, you can follow the same steps as above to either edit a tile’s configuration settings before publishing, or simply quick-adding the tile right away.

Note: You can add a total of eight large data tiles and six quick insight tiles to your dashboard. If your firm’s needs change, you can always delete tiles to make more space for new ones.
