Best Practices
Custom fields help you gather project-specific information from your team — such as locations, cost codes, internal roles, or other client-specific data.
Once configured, your fields will automatically appear in the mobile time entry form for all users.
Required Permissions
You will need system administrator access to successfully configure and manage the custom fields available in BigTime Delivery.

Suggested Custom Fields for Tracking Time in Professional Services
When you create custom fields for your timesheet, it helps your team track time more accurately. These fields can support billing, project planning, compliance, or internal reporting.
Below are some common examples used by professional services teams. They’re easy for staff to understand and fill out in BigTime Mobile.
| Field Name | Field Type | Example Use |
| Work Location | Dropdown or Text | Show where the work happened (e.g., Remote, Onsite, Client Office). |
| Client Approval Number | Text | Let staff enter the client’s PO or reference code. |
| Type of Work | Dropdown | Help categorize tasks (e.g., Design, Testing, Delivery). |
| Overtime | Checkbox | Mark hours that exceed the regular schedule. |
| Travel Time | Checkbox | Track time spent commuting or traveling. |
| Project Phase or Sprint | Dropdown | Link time to a delivery phase or sprint. |
| Internal Job Code | Text | Capture department codes or cost center tags. |
| Client Department | Dropdown | Select which part of the client org was supported. |
| Notes for Project Manager | Text | Optional short comments about the work done. |
Best Practices
- Use clear labels that staff will recognize.
- Don't forget to avoid internal jargon or abbreviations unless your team understands them.
- Mark only the truly required fields as “Required” in configuration — too many required fields can slow down time entry.
- Test your custom fields on mobile before rolling them out to your team.
| Tip: If a field is required, staff will see an error if they try to save time without completing it. |
Once saved, the data flows directly into your reports, budgets, or invoices — no need to follow up later.
