Using Single Sign-On (SSO)

All BigTime customers have the ability to use Single Sign-On (SSO) to access their accounts. If you're a new customer logging into BigTime for the first time, this article will guide you through the necessary steps to set your password and log in with SSO. Once you've set up your account with SSO,  you can easily select your preferred authorization method during login.

First Time Logging in with SSO

Screen Description
1. Check your email. When a new staffer is added by an Admin to an existing firm, an invitation email will be sent to your email inbox. Press “Get Started” in the email to proceed to Step 2.

2. Click the activation link to set a password and fill in the required fields to finish account setup.

  3. Press “Get Started” to log In.
If your password fields match correctly, you will be redirected to the BigTime home screen to confirm that your password has been set.
4. Sign out of BigTime once you are successfully logged in to complete password setup.

In the next steps, you will complete set up for SSO authorization.

5. Select your preferred SSO provider when you are  redirected to the main login page.

This will trigger a secondary confirmation email to be sent to your email inbox.

6. Check your email for an OpenID email confirmation.
7. Click the link in the email.
8. Confirm connection screen appears and click the hyperlink to navigate to the final confirmation page.
9. Click “Sign in with Google” or your preferred SSO service to complete the SSO authorization process

What is Single Sign-On (SSO)?
Single sign-on (SSO) is an authentication method that enables customers to securely authenticate with multiple applications and websites by using just one set of credentials.

What are the security benefits of using SSO?
SSO simplifies user login across multiple platforms, reducing password fatigue and security vulnerabilities.

What providers are supported for SSO?

  • Google Sign In
  • Intuit
  • Okta
  • Azure Active Directory
  • Onelogin

NOTE: BigTime will be phasing out support for SAML-based SSO providers in a forthcoming update, the date of which will be announced later this year. While no immediate action is required, please be aware that existing SAML SSO integrations will need to transition to the OpenID Connect (OIDC) protocol in the future. If you are interested in becoming an early adopter of OIDC, we encourage you to get in touch with us for more details.

Why is the SSO setup process so involved?

We have heard your feedback about the extensive setup process for SSO authentication, and we are working to streamline this for our upcoming launch of our rebuilt SSO & MFA service to reduce setup friction. If you would like to be involved in our early access program for SSO, please fill out this Early Access form.

How can I enforce my staffers to use SSO?

Currently all customers can choose which method they would like to use for login (SSO or Username / Password). Starting in May 2024, we will be rolling out a new SSO & MFA experience that can be enforced by admins. If you would like to learn more, please read our April 2024 Release Announcement.

What if my employees are not receiving activation links?
If your staffers are not receiving activation emails, here are some common areas to troubleshoot. If you are still running into issues, you can always reach out directly to BigTime customer support.

  • Check spam or junk folders to check if it has been flagged as junk mail
  • Verify email addresses to ensure that there are no typos or that email was not sent to the wrong inbox
  • Add to your “Safe Senders” domain list in your 3P email provider contact settings, to ensure that the email address is not blocked.
