Activate and Edit Notifications in BigTime

Make sure your staffers are aware of the work they need to complete by setting up notifications. Notifications can be sent to your staffers through email or by BigTime’s in-app messaging system, available to users with Advanced, Premier or Projector packages.

Send notifications when:

  • A staffer is assigned to a task,
  • A staffer’s expense report is approved,
  • A staffer has rejected time or expenses, or
  • A manager or team lead has time or expenses to review.

In this article, we’ll explain how to activate notifications in BigTime and how to customize them, so the content is firm-relevant.

Activating Your Notifications in Bigtime

1. Navigate to MY COMPANY...NOTIFICATIONS.

2. Click SAVE to save your selection.

Edit Notifications

You can edit each notification group, so the email your staffer receives contains firm-relevant information.

We’ll provide an example below:

1. Click the EDIT NOTIFICATIONS button to the right of your screen.

2. A new window will open with two tabs labeled NOTIFICATION DETAILS and EDIT NOTIFICATIONS. Below EDIT NOTIFICATIONS is a box where you can add a NOTIFICATION TYPE. Click the arrow on the right side of that box and a picklist will appear.

3. Click on a notification type that you want to customize. This will cause a “subject” and “message” textbox to populate. You can personalize individual notices before they’re sent out in the system by typing into each box. For example, we can change the subject to “You’ve been assigned to a new task.”

4. Click SAVE to save your work.

Follow the above steps to make changes to other notifications.

TIP: Address Messages by Name

You can have your messages address users by name. Simply type: {{Staffer.FName}} into the subject or message fields where you want the staffers’ first name to appear.

Say you want to send this message:

“Hi Henry, You’ve got some timesheets to review. Please make sure to approve/reject these timesheets. Timesheets are due to be reviewed every Friday.”

You can have the system recognize a staffer’s name of the recipient by typing the following:

“Hi {{Staffer.FName}}, You’ve got some timesheets to review. Please make sure to approve/reject these timesheets. Timesheets are due to be reviewed every Friday.”

Opt Out of Notifications

If you'd no longer like to receive notifications from BigTime, opting out and turning notifications off is simple. Just follow the same steps as above to navigate to your notifications settings window and uncheck the box(es) next to the type(s) of notifications you'd no longer like to receive. Then, click SAVE.
